Bugis MRT Station (EW12/DT14) is located on the East West Line of Singapore MRT. It is located next to Bugis Junction, which has a direct link to the mall. It has almost the same design as the neighbouring Lavender MRT Station, save for the different colours of lights used.

The station is busy due to the many places it serves which includes Iluma , Sim Lim Square , Bugis Village and Bugis Junction many shophouse housing retail and food outlets, it is nearby to National Library and the Kampong Glam. Many private educational schools in the area like Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and LASALLE College of the Arts are also situated nearby.

The station is to be an interchange with the future Downtown MRT Line. It will be part of Stage 1 of the line. As the distance between the platforms is relatively long, it will have travellators, the third station after Dhoby Ghaut and Serangoon to have travellators within the paid area.

IncidentsEdit

2007 accidentEdit

On December 27, 2007, 15-year old Teo Boon Hwee got her leg caught in the gap between the platform and the train, causing westbound services from Aljunied to Outram to be disrupted during the evening peak hours. The girl was not seriously hurt and was sent to Singapore General Hospital for treatment. This was the first major accident involving an underground MRT station in Singapore.[1]

2011 train disruptionEdit

Some 630 passengers had to alight from an MRT train at Bugis station on 21 Jan 2011 at about 3.30pm when smoke started coming out from one of the cabins. SMRT said the smoke could have been due to a gas leak from an air conditioner and posed no danger. The train was taken out of service. Passengers were delayed for about six minutes in their journey as they had to wait for the next train. [2]
